DAY 2 OF OUR TRIP TO NEW YORK
Friday November 16th:
Today is the day that we’re going to be doing our sightseeing! Although it’s difficult to leave the comfy beds, we know this is going to be a huge day for us, especially since for most of us, this is our first time to New York.
We begin by visiting Wall Street with its famous bull and stock exchange. We have our Harvey ‘Suits’ moment buying bagels from one of New York’s famous food trucks.
After a hearty breakfast, we take the Staten Island Ferry for a magnificent view of the iconic NYC skyline, the Statue of Liberty, and some of the smaller islands, such as the Governor’s Island, a beautiful and lush place whose vivid green grass we could make out from the boat. After disembarking, we took a ride on the metro and had the opportunity to get away from all the hustle and bustle of New York for a while by taking a stroll along Fifth Avenue, and in Central Park, a huge green space in the centre of the concrete jungle that is New York. Next, we took a brief look at the MET Gallery, home of thousands of works of art, and were impressed by the beautiful architecture and in particular an interesting Egyptian display. Along the way, we stopped at Bryant Park and its lovely skating rink, before we realized we had inadvertently arrived just as the Notre Dame marching band performed, a very welcome surprise to us! Finally, we arrived at our last tourist attraction of the day: Times Square!
From the crazy fluorescent billboards which lit the square to the eclectic street performers doing all kinds of tricks, we felt like we had arrived at a whole different world. We also managed to have a very successful shopping expedition, and a wholesome Italian dinner, before heading home for the night!
