First TEDEd Meeting Experience: Khayali Dhanji

shehneen dhamani

My name is Khayali Dhanji and I am a grade 11 student at Mulgrave School. This is my first year in the Encounters TEDed club and I am so excited to share my experience. Outside of the TED organization, I am heavily involved with theatre productions at my school, as well as various service organizations.

Like many other teenagers, my only prior experience with the TED organizations was watching TED Talks forwarded to me by my parents or played by teachers in school. It wasn’t until our first meeting that I understood the enormity of the organization that I am now a part of. The TEDEd platform not only permits me to hone my communication skills in order to share my own ideas, but also become more receptive to the ideas of my peers. I look forward to learning from everyone in the class for the rest of the year. My first Encounters TEDEd club meeting left me excited for the year. There, I was able to interact with other Ismaili students my age and discuss political, social, and economic issues through the lens of faith. Growing up in a western society, this meeting was the first moment that I understood my faith within a secular context. As the year progresses, I hope to continue learning more about myself, my peers, and my community and I can’t wait to develop my own TED Talk!

I hope to meet you on February 22nd!
